FAQ
What is Defined Duration™ ALM?
We use our customized software combined with a financial planning-based asset-liability matching process to help you undererstand how your assets are tied to specific financial goals. Defined Duration ALM is how we quantify the time horizons of certain assets and then match them to certain financial needs. It's similar to the way most big banks and pension funds operate and we're using our unique macroeconomic expertise to make it available to retail investors.
What is the fee? Do you have account minimums?
The cost of the full service Discipline Financial Planner is a flat $1,500 billed quarterly. We have no firm minimums; we’ll confirm fit during the initial consult and if it isn't sensible for us to maintain a full service relationship we are more than happy to discuss DIY and alternatives. We're here to help!
Can you manage existing accounts at my current custodian?
In many cases yes; we’ll review your custodian setup during onboarding. But in order to take full advantage of our service we generally require Schwab accounts. If you're already at Schwab the process is super clean and you just need to contact us to link your Schwab accounts to our institutional accounts.
How often do we meet?
As often as you'd like. On average, we meet with clients at least once a year and as often as quarterly. But everyone's different and so we'll take it on a case by case basis.
Are you fiduciaries?
Yes. Discipline Funds is a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA), which means we are legally and ethically bound to act as fiduciaries for our clients. Mr. Roche moved to the independent advisory path over 20 years ago, long before the RIA movement became widespread. He's a thought leader in the independent investment space and a vocal advocate of the fiduciary standard.
What our fiduciary duty means for you: Duty of Loyalty: We must place your interests above our own. If a conflict of interest arises, we are obligated to disclose it to you fully and transparently. Duty of Care: We are required to provide advice that is thorough, accurate, and based on a prudent analysis of your specific financial situation. Transparency: We believe in complete transparency regarding our fees and investment strategies. You will always know exactly what you are paying and what you are invested in. By hiring Discipline Funds, you are hiring a partner who is legally obligated to sit on the same side of the table as you, ensuring that every decision is made to optimize your financial well-being, not our bottom line.
